This week Billy and I needed to get caught up and shoot a few episodes for our TV show. We started our week on Tuesday fishing in Tampa Bay with Capt. Will Shook. The morning got off to a great start with a
steady Spanish Mackeral and Trout bite over some deep south bay flats. We then took our Mackeral to the shipping channel edge and worked our way into some great light tackle shark action. We hooked and landed several grey reef sharks in the 4 to 5 foot range.
On Wednesday we headed south to Captiva Island for a day of offshore fishing with Capt. Ozzie Fisher. We spent our day working rock piles in 45 to 65 feet of water and came up with quite a few nice Gag Grouper in the 22 to 27 inch range. There were a lot of short Red Grouper in these depths as well which made for an awesome day. We used mainly live pilchards and small pinfish for baits.
Thursday led us 65 miles west of Johns Pass to 165 feet of water with Jim Nasset and the Pro Marine fishing team. There the American Red Snapper bite was on fire. We caught these guys until we were tired of catching them. Most were in the 6 to 10 pound range which might not sound that heavy until you have to reel them up from 170 feet below. The bait of choice was frozen sardines fished just inches off the bottom. An incredible week for sure and as you can tell our best bite all week was in deep water so work the deeper stuff for best results!
